Papaver orientale 'Crimson Red'

This aptly named variety bears huge glowing brilliant red flowers with black central blotches. Remarkable not only for their size and hue but also for their crinkled tissue-like flowers, the glorious bowl-shaped flowers open from large globose buds atop tall prickly stems. The foliage dies back in early summer, re-emerging in fall.
